The year 2019 may have passed, but it was filled with memories, marks and lessons. One of such platforms to learn life lessons & Christian ethics, beliefs & values is Gospel Movie Platform.
The Nigerian Gospel Movie industry is another industry that is evolving and growing like their Gospel Music counterparts and it’s remarkable. A lot of projects were recorded for year 2019 and to be very honest, greater percentage were done with excellence and good lessons to learn.
While waiting for more Christian movie projects in 2020, these 10 movies have stood out of many as most watched in the year 2019.
1. ABEJOYE
Abejoye, by the Mount Zion Film Productions, Nigeria and the Flaming Sword Ministries International, Dallas, Tx is a lovely story set in Nigeria and in the United State of America – USA.
So far, it has 3 Seasons:
Season 1 – King Maker 2017
Season 2 – Peace maker 2018
Season 3 – My Defender 2019
The Movie is about an aged village king maker (Mike Bamiloye) and his son’s family living in the USA. It showcases cultural & traditions to the aged and the modification of civilization to the young religious and spiritual generation.
The King maker (Baba Abejoye, who is a traditionalist) comes to visit his son in America with his traditions; fluent Yoruba accents and some traditional elements. His daughter-in-law (Gloria Bamiloye) is a Christian, a church worker and who is also believed to be ‘prayerful’. The younger Abejoye, (Baba’s son – Brother Dele), is an elder in the church but is seeing to be involved in an adulterous relationship with Sis Dedun.
These characters should begin to paint a picture of what happens in the movie.
Baba Abejoye had several encounters with other traditionalists over his possession of the gourd of priesthood in a regular communication via diabolic means & many attacks & battles with them. He also had an encounter with the Pastor at season 1, who teaches him that traditions and his perverse beliefs have no concrete power when the name of Jesus is mentioned.
Abejoye the movie projects a deep virtue of Christianity in forgiveness, love, mercy and it is emotionally interesting.
Find time to see these series if you have not, it will bless you and don’t forget to drop your comments to share with friends.

3. GBEMI
The movie Gbemi which is about a young lady who is of marriageable age but is yet to be married is a must watch for everyone. Written by Emmanuella Mike-Bamiloye of Mount Zion Films.
There is also a Brother John who wants to be married, presently in a relationship but his heart is towards the things of God.
Both of them are in tune with Christ, but both of them are involved in things that could drive them from their journeys if care isn’t taken.
The lady, ‘Gbemi’ is revealed to be unforgiven from her childhood which she has held on to for years and despite being a Christian, this has eaten her deep that she has become “less proactive” for the opposite sex to woo her. She sees every man to be like her ‘abuser’
As for ‘Bro. John’, he is in a relationship with Sis Debby who is not in agreement with his vision & having a contradicting idea of his Christianity. is cumbersome for her and that he makes her feel worldly at times. She calls it to quit as she feels it is better the relationship comes to an end before they get married. Both are characters you would love to see.
You will love this movie for its romantic comedy, which emphasize on the importance of agreement & aligned vision in a relationship. It was a great script brilliantly acted to portray what a Christian courtship should be.
Every young Christian should go for this and don’t forget to share your funniest moment of Gbemi.
4. One In 50,0000 (The Wonder)
Wow, this is highly emotional and pathetic story and a great awareness about the Treacher Collins Syndrome – TCS a rare disorder that occurs in one out of 50000 people (a genetic disorder characterized by deformities of the ears, eyes, cheekbones, and chin. The degree to which a person is affected, however, may vary from mild to severe. Complications may include breathing problems, problems seeing, cleft palate, and hearing loss).
It tells ‘a true-life story’ of a Christian couple with focus on their daily struggles of how they were able to manage and cope with their daughter Boluwatife who was born with a rare disorder that occurs in one among 50000 people.
There were days of weeping, suicidal thoughts, quarrels, regrets, sorrow, complains, murmurings, blaming God and many more tragic moments but in the end, Boluwatife and her parents realized she was created in the image of God differently for the purpose of giving hope to other hopeless children and cases.
Produced by Mojisola Ogunlana and Directed by Kayode Babalola, they both played a remarkable role to interpret such an unusual movie.
5. KEMBE ISONU – Part 2
Flowing from Part 1 (Look for it if you have not watched it), Kembe Isonu is about two Christian parents whose children do not follow their way of life or their faith in God. In Alajogun village where idols are worshipped, this couple is put to death for refusing to give their allegiance to the gods of the land.
When Gbadebo and Gbenro (their children) are about to be made a sacrifice to appease the gods, they elope to Bayegun village where they are caught by Ewekoro who sees them as strangers to be sacrificed to the gods of the land.
Wraps in many riddles, this movie teaches that the deeper knowledge of God will be the answer to many life questions. And there is clear difference between the true God and other gods.

6. THE SALT
“The Salt” shows that the church is not the totality of the life of the Christian & how to show the real identity of Christianity.
It talks about government, politics, economic, education and the general society. The realities of present-day Nigeria where two “thieves” engage in a conversation about who has wrecked more havoc and suddenly corruption has become a competition. The movie also reflects the mentality that many have today, where integrity is seen as weakness.
The 2019 movie is from the stable of Praise in Zion Ministries Productions and was written by Nike Akande
Every Christian have the chance to put things right; to be the light of the world, to be the change we want to see. It begins now and let it begin with you.
7. DIRE
A movie written and directed by David Seun Abraham is the story of a young man, Tony, whose marriage proposal to the love of his life, Sofia, has been turned down, and who then begins to second-guess his motives when he learns of her terrible past.
The movie ‘Dire’ is full of reflections and self-assessment as viewers as you watch every scene, a sincere person would ask ‘what would I do, if it was me?’ Every single will learn from this movie.
8. AKOBI LAAROYE 2 (The Ultimate Battle)
This is a movie about a man named Awogbona, whose self-appraisal is enough to make the whole village of Iyarako shiver. Powerful enough to dethrone the Kabiyesi and pushed the whole village into total disarray.
He took a strange and weird decision that rewrites his destiny.
Written by Victor Olukoju of Parables Films Production, look out for this movie to find out.
9. LAIDE’S NOTE
It is the story of Laide, a Christian lady who believes that God has spoken to her about the man she would get married to Williams. Meanwhile, Williams has been led to her close friend and roommate, Folake, who eventually accepts his proposal.
And due to family pressure mounting, she got engaged to Akin, an unbeliever in Akin, a decision she later regrets.
From the moment she fell in love with Williams, Laide had concluded that he was meant for her. She did not pray “to be sure God wants her to do this”, she didn’t tell any of her close friends.
Laide is a reflection of many sisters who needs to understand that feelings are not enough; you have to be sure it’s God speaking, and not your feelings and for emphasis, sincerity key.
I highly recommend this movie, not only for ladies but for every movie lover. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable watching experience.
10. SHACKLES
The movie portrays how people, believers especially should be patient to wait on God and not be in haste when we are in need of something. Impatience can result to a dangerous and unbearable end.
From the stable of Mount Zion Film Production and the Flaming Sword Ministries International.
Look out for this line by Gashiky Melandra and tell me who said it:
“Listen to me, woman! In the night of our demoniac conjugal bliss, when our sweat and blood amalgamated in the golden crucible of unbridled anxieties. We covenanted together on a common seed of impatience, and it resulted in the birth of Melamboa Dakoshi.”
No doubt, it has been a great list, would you love to let us know any other Gospel Movie that has really blessed you in the year 2019.
